Activities
VSUK was formed in 1988. A brief history of its formation and its activities over the years is given below.
July 1988 - launch of the Samaja at Wilbury Primary School, Edmonton, London N18.
*September 1988 - first function held at Asian Centre, Wood Green, London.
*October 1988 - second major function held at Edmonton, London, to celebrate Akka Mahadevi Jayanthi. Speeches included the life and contributions of Akka to the society.
July 1989 - celebration of Basava Jayanthi held at St Clare's Church Hall, Fulwood, Preston and first AGM
July 1990 - celebration of Basava Jayanthi on a grand scale at Preston. Ilakal Swamiji, Belimutt Swamiji, Prof S Langoti and Shri B L Patil (Chairman, Vimalbava, Athani) were the Chief Guests
July 1991, Prof S V Patil (retd Sociology Professor) was our Chief Guest
July 1992, Prof M Mahadevappa, international scientist, geneticist and plant breeder was the guest of honour
November 1992 - Sri S L Byrappa, renowned Kannada writer, was the Chief Guest
July 1993 - weekend convention at the Lancaster University Campus. We had Taralabalu Jagadguru, Shri Shamanur Shivashankarappa of Davanagere and Justice Rajashekar Murthy as our Guests
June 1994 - reception party at the Indian YMCA for Tharalabalu Jagadguru and his 100 disciples who came on a World peace tour during June 1994
July 1994 - annual convention at Bangor University campus
November 1994 - Akka Mahadevi Jayanthi celebration at Scunthorpe. Mr Glen Roberts, Librarian, Hull University was the Guest Speaker
July 1995 - celebration of Basava Jayanthi again at Lancaster University campus. Mr C B Patel, Editor, Gujarat Samachar was the guest of honour
November 1995 - Akkamahadevi Jayanthi celebration at Wheatley, near Oxford. Dr M N Nandakumar, Executive Director, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan was the guest speaker
July 1996 - Basavajayanthi was held in Chelmsford, organised by Ratna Niranjan and family. The chief guest was Smt Nirmala Kesari
July 1997 - Basava Jayanthi organized by Moksha Darnton and family at Portsmouth University, Portsmouth. Chief Guests were Late Padmashree R M B Aradhya and Mr H V Nagendrappa, Film Producer from Bangalore.
July 1998 - Basava Jayanthi organized by Jaya Puranik and family at Northallerton. Dr. Nath, Durham was the Chief Guest
August 1999 - Basava Jayanthi organized by Prabha Dhumma and family at UMIST, Manchester. Mr. Trivedi, Manchester was the Chief Guest
August 2002 - Veerashaiva sunner gathering met in Swansea from 23 to 26 August 2002 at the Swansea University Student Village. The event was a great success supported by Veerashaivas and their Guests from Germany and all over UK.
